Organizing – bringing Organizational Concepts Bases of authority A. Legal – (corporation, franchise contract) B. Persuasion – advice, peer pressure to maintain standards C. Legislative activity – government standards in school lunch program D. Acceptance of authority – credibility Departmentalization = Delegation = Division of Authority A. Scalar Principle – authority must extend in an uninterrupted scale, or series of steps from the top to the bottom of an organization. NOTE: AUTHORITY CAN BE DELEGATED, BUT Ultimately RESPONSIBILITY CAN NOT BE DELEGATED. (Remember we are only delegating authority) Reasons to Delegate: 1. To get the work done 2.
