Reading: Text 3.3 – 3.5, Lab Manual “Strobe Motion Diagrams” Q&A-1 to Q&A-5 Not all concepts will be covered in class – you are responsible for all material in the reading and in the homework problems. Problems: 1. A cart can move to the right or left along a horizontal track (the positive part of the x axis) as shown in the figure to the right. Assume that friction is small enough that it can be ignored. A horizontal force F is applied to the cart. Choose the one force versus time graph (A through H) for each statement below which would allow the described motion of the car. Note: The acceleration a in the x -direction is proportional to the force F . You may use a choice more than once or not at all. If you think that none of the graphs represents the correct answer, choose J. 1.
