History – 1975-1985 2200 Gates leaves Harvard University for Albuquerque, New Mexico where MITS(Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems) is located and founds Microsoft. MITS is the distributor of Gate’s Altair BASIC program. 2200 In 1981, DOS(Disk Operating System), which brought Microsoft its real success, helped Microsoft strike a deal with IBM to set up an operating system for it’s computers. This system can still be found on all Microsoft Windows operating systems today and is known as MS-DOS

History – 1985-1995 2200 1985 – first release of Microsoft Windows for MS- DOS program. 2200 1989 – Microsoft Office is introduced and competes with Word Perfect. 2200 1990 – Windows 3.0 introduced, sold 100,000 copies in two weeks. 2200 1993 – Windows NT3.1 (Server Based) 2200 1995 – Windows 95, sold more than one million copies in four days after release. Introduced a web browser, Internet Explorer.
