English 118W Fall 2008 Prof. Hearn Grading Criteria for Class Participation Because Class Participation counts as such a significant part of your grade (20%) and forms such a basic foundation of your education, I want you to understand how I evaluate this vital element of your performance and learning in this course. A student who merits an “A” for Class Participation is consistently prepared for class (has done the reading beforehand and has something to say about it); consistently participates in discussion with relevant, respectful comments; demonstrates a courteous, engaged attitude toward the professor and fellow classmates; gives full attention to peers’ work in reading groups, offering substantive, constructive written and verbal comments;
