Carlos Iván Chávez López A01273482 Chapter 4 Review Questions 1. Explain in a very succinct manner the simplex method. Use the concept of vertices in your answer. Is a set of procedures to find the answer in a LP. First, take the basic answer and then follow an algorithm to find the other solution in the feasible area (this corresponds one of the vertices). 2. In what form muste be de constraints in an LP exiat before the simplex method can be applied? Why? Must have other variables called slacks, (if we don’t have this we need an artificial one) to make the inequality equations and to give a matrix form to the problem. 3. Differentiate between a basic solution and a basic feasible solution. What is the relationship between basic feasible solutions and vertices of feasible region? Basic solution is t he one that corresponds to the values of the plots touch other constraints or one of the axes. Basic feasible solution is one that can be find tin the feasible region. Then, the relationship of both is that the basic feasible solution is a solution corresponding to one of the vertices of feasible region. 4. What is the difference between the algebraic simplex procedure and the simplex method? That in algebraic simplex considers a basic solution and in the other method always tries ti get the best solution.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
