Emotion  pp.473-487 21/04/2008 21:20:00 Emotions-  Brief psychological and physiological responses that are subjectively  experienced as feelings and that prepare a person for action. Brief Specific Help individuals with goals Profoundly social Autonomic nervous system (ANS)-  The glands, organs, muscles, arteries, and  veins throughout the body that are controlled by nerve cells originating in the spinal  cord, and that help the individual deal with emergency situations.   Evolutionary approach that emotions are biologically based adaptations that  increase the likelihood that our genes will be passed on to the next generation. The cultural approach assumes that emotions are strongly influenced by values,  roles, institutions, socialization practices, and construal processes, and that these  vary in different cultures.   Duchenne smiles (when good things happen, left side used) vs. non-duchenne
