Opera: Gianni Schicchi Giacomo Puccini's opera entitled Gianni Schicchi is much different from what is portrayed as the standard opera. It is much more comedic and easier to connect to than the average long opera of the time. The humor, death, and secrecy that Puccini wrote into his opera are all things that are still a large part of other entertainment works today. Because of these things, Gianni Schicchi is not a normal opera and does not fit into the category that many realistic operas at the time did. This opera made me view operas in a much different way than I had before. I used to see them as long boring plays which consisted mainly of large ladies belting out loud noises. This opera showed my that there can actually be an intriguing plot and many different types of characters. I found that the single scene of the opera worked very well to keep things simple yet still interesting. The comedic style also prevented it from being slow and dull. The over the top situation kept the opera from being too believable though. I was surprised twice during the
