Lecture 5 Week 3 April 14, 2008 Economic Nationalism: an idea that a government (state) should be completely self- sufficient to avoid unnecessary interaction with other states; this was all supposed to be done by the state (state intervention); and the economy must have in the hands of the nation it caused tension? Only allowing a national majority in the work places The war economy was NOT a lassies-faire (free-market) economy; the state paid for all of the munitions and military weapons that were produced in the country The state also started to introduce planning (of affairs); such as how many tanks do you want to produce?; therefore the state was hiring workers This was a sense of a war economy; in Germany the war economic system was ideal; Germany was known for its organization and other countries sought to copy their miraculous war economy The Hindenburg Plan in 1916 was the first planned economy in the world; Germany created all the framework for a state run economy; they distributed energy, labor, raw
