There are an infinite number of possible orbitals. a. The four we will work with the most are called s, p, d, f b. They all have different shapes and different quantities of structures to hold the electrons. 4. Using the periodic table to decide where the last electrons should be a. The first two columns are called the S-block b. The inner-transition metals are called the D-block c. The last 6 columns are called the P-block d.
