BCOR 2500 6 November 2007 Career Paper One career that has interested me in the past is working with CNC (computer numerical control ) mills and routers. I spoke with Larry Collins, the owner of Denver Systems, a company that specializes in fabrication of custom parts made using one of their CNC machines. Typically, a company will contact them with a 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) file and ask them to fabricate the part to certain specifications. Other times, they will contact them with a rough idea of what they want, and Denver Systems will work with them through the design stage and then fabricate the part. Larry’s shop has a few CNC mills that can create a wide variety of parts in different sizes. It is Larry’s responsibility to ensure that the parts he makes match up exactly with what the company specified. Many of the parts are for industrial applications where precision is of the highest importance. A discrepancy of only a few thousandths of an inch could potentially cause catastrophic
