Homework Assignment 7 ECE 155A – Winter 2009 Due Monday, March 9 This network programming assignment involves a three-tier application, where there is a front-end tier containing "pure" clients, a middle tier containing a master that acts as both a client and a server, and a back-end tier containing slaves that acts as "pure" servers. The clients and the master communicate using Stream Sockets over TCP; likewise, the master and the slaves communicate using Stream Sockets over TCP. You may use a single client in the front-end tier. The client keeps its connection open throughout a session that involves multiple requests that it sends to the master over the same connection. In each request, the client sends a string to the master, along with a particular kind of request. You will use two slaves in the back-end tier. For each of the slaves, the master opens a connection to that slave and keeps that connection open throughout a session that involves multiple requests that it sends to that slave over that connection.
