The initial scene shows Marnie inspecting the venue with confusion and frustration. The Britney Spears song directly speaks to Marnie herself as it matches the behaviour of her friends: Jessa is dancing with her boss; Hannah is “losing it hard” with Adam; Charlie is making out with his new girlfriend “in the dark”; Elijah captures Marnie’s “stare and notice”. Without dialogue in the initial scene, the viewers are able get a clear overview of the characters. Each character’s mood is presented by the talking body.This following scene becomes a framing of Hannah’s character, as it involves both linguistic meaning and physical activity.
