Unformatted text preview: ME 3333 Test 1 Terms: 1. Temperature : the measure of the molecular activity of a substance. The greater the movement of molecules, the higher the temperature. 2. Pressure : a measure of the force exerted per unit area on the boundaries of a substance. It is caused by the collisions of the molecules of the substance with the boundaries of the system. 3. Modes of energy storage : stationary or transportation applications 4. Control Volume : a mathematical abstraction employed in the process of creating mathematical models of physical processes. A fixed volume in space through which the fluid flows. 5. Control Mass : the mass of the fluid remains constant as the fluid moves through the control volume. 6. Extensive property : a property that depends on the amount of matter present. 7. Intensive property : a property for which the value does not depend on the amount of matter present. 8.
