Lab Report #5 I Part IV. Homework Questions: I. Explain how to control the size of gold nanoparticles and how to achieve narrow size distribution? The parameters which could influence the size of gold NPs include concentration, temperature, time and vertex speed. Usually, we control the size of gold NPs with different ratio of seed to metal salt; the smaller amount of sodium citrate, the larger the NP is. Longer time or higher temperature also results in larger NP. In order to achieve narrow size distribution, there are several things during the synthesis need to be taken care of: a) All the reducing agent should be addedto the solution simultaneously. Otherwise, the nucleation may happen at different time point so that NPs of different size will be produced. b) Particles should be avoided because once there is any particle getting into the solution, they would serve as nucleation, and Au can grow on these particles.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
