Unformatted text preview: Installing Autodesk Inventor 2009 Updated July 10, 2008 1. Point your internet browser to http://www.students.autodesk.com and either login with a username and password you have previously created with the site, or create a new user account with Autodesk through the “new member registration” link. Once logged into the website, select the software downloads link on the left pane. 3. You can either download using Autodesk’s Student Community Downloader or through the separate file download links near the bottom. It is suggested if using the later method that a download manager is used that would allow you to resume downloading if the connection to the server is lost, as the files are very large. For new members of Autodesk 2. Find Autodesk Inventor from the list of software and select Autodesk Inventor Professional 2009 (English) from the drop‐down menu. Click on the download button beneath the drop‐down box. The method that will be outlined is using the Student Community Downloader. For instructions on the alternative method, please consult the guide provided by Autodesk on the link below all the individual file links. 4. Enter your username & password into the download tool you logged into the Autodesk website with. Page 1 of 4 5. Select Autodesk Inventor Professional 2009 (English) from the box of available software to download. If you would like to download the files to a different folder, then change the download directory from “C:\” to your desired directory. The download tool will create a directory named “Autodesk/Inventor” in that location to download the files to. 7. When presented with this screen, de‐select all options except Autodesk Inventor Professional 2009 unless you know otherwise that you will need another component. If you leave everything else selected, your installation will take significantly longer and may run across some errors. 6. This is what the download screen will look like. It will take at least 45 minutes for the tool to download all the necessary files, but may end up taking several hours depending on your where you are connected to the internet from. After the download completes you will be presented with this message. Just hit the launch button to begin the installation. 8. The next two screens are an overview of your product selections and a license agreement. Just click next on the overview if everything seems correct and then agree to the license agreement and click next on that page as well. 9. It will then ask you to personalize the products. Just enter your first and last name and you can put Virginia Tech as the organization. For the Serial Number you can enter the one that was provided on the webpage or on the Autodesk Community Download Tool. Page 2 of 4 10. Once this is complete you can review and make configuration changes. It is suggested that you leave these as defaults since you can change any configurations after the software is installed. 2. You will be presented with this screen, which you want to make sure that “Activate the product” is selected. If you will not be using the software for more than 30 days, you may consider just using the trial version instead of adding any complications with the activation process. Also, if the activation doesn’t complete successfully, you still have 30 days to get it working before the trial period runs out. 11. When completed you will get a screen saying the installation is complete, which you can click on the Finish button. 3. In the next screen you will enter the serial number that can be found in either step 2 or step 6 of this guide. Also, make sure “Get an activation code” is selected before clicking the next button Activating Autodesk Inventor 2009 1. Double click on the icon located on your desktop after the installation is finished. Page 3 of 4 4. The next screen requires you to login, however this login is not the same as the main website so you will most likely have to click on the “Create User ID Now” link. 6. If no account exists on the next screen, you will have to create a new account. If one does exist, you can select it from below and click the next button. 5. Enter in the information that Autodesk wants to know. 7. Registration is now complete. It is not necessary to write down the activation code as the program already has the information stored. But it is important that you know where the location of the file is, for future retrieval. You can just click on the finish button and when Inventor starts up, the title bar should say “Educational Version” 8. Activation and installation of Autodesk Inventor Professional 2009 is now complete. If you have any questions or problems contact SWAT Team for further assistance. Page 4 of 4 ...
