Written by a fire breathing Calvinist (aka Puritan) o most piercing example of Puritanism o How did this happen? Salem Witch Trials - How did this happen? They were educated people, not stupid, so how? o Ex. like Jonestown Samuel Sewall - Diary writing, how we began - theocracy (no argument of church vs. state) - then plutocracy (rule by the rich)—hasn’t really come down off of that - Sewall was a Calvinist - Given: seeking god’s grace to be taken to heaven - Physically looking for: a wife -
