Cult Thru Film Film Notes:  Week Two MASS MEDIA:  DEVELOPING A CRITICAL AWARENESS AND  ANALYSIS “Knowledge about often gives the illusion of knowledge.” – Trinh T. Minh-ha Manufacturing Consent:  Noam Chomsky and The Media Film Producers: Peter Wintonick, Mark Achbar, Adam  Symansky 1992, 167 mins. Background A. In 1988 Edward  S. Herman  and  Noam  Chomsky  published  a book entitled  “Manufacturing  Consent:  The Political Economy  of the Mass Media”.  The book is a very  important  work of critical media analysis. B. The film (1992) borrows  key concepts from the book.  Namely, the “five filters” of the  propaganda  model.  These are: 1) Ownership  of the media is highly concentrated  among  a few international corporations. 2) Advertising has colonized  the U.S. mass media  and  is responsible for most of the  media’s income.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
