About this anti-death penalty site: As an anti-death penalty activist (also called an abolitionist), I favor life in prison over capital punishment. There is a strong movement underway to abolish the death penalty in America. With the advent of DNA testing, it's more possible than ever to establish if someone is truly guilty or not. Barry Sheck's Innocence Project is one example of how DNA is exonerating the wrongfully convicted on death row. It's shocking that the innocent have been condemned to death in the U.S. justice system. More needs to be done to end the wrongful prosecution of racially and economically disadvantaged men. 1. Executions cost more than life in prison. $2 million per person vs. $500,000 (4x as much!). Free counsel for  defense, for appeals, maximum security on a separate death row wing.  2. The innocent may be wrongly executed. Since the DP was reinstated in 1976, 82 inmates have been freed from  Death Row. That's 1 Death Row inmate found to be wrongfully convicted
