Depth 33 km Regional/Local Tectonics: Subduction of the Caroline plate under the Australian plate, causing a large earthquake, eventually causing the large waves. Most of the movement along this fault line are of the strike-slip variety, which are the main causers of tsunami. The waves were generally short, lasting about 4 minutes on average.
