Ryan Zmolek Global Studies 1 El Salvador Extra Credit Assignment I went to the Multicultural Center Lounge for a presentation on the current socioeconomic situation of El Salvador. Four student speakers from the UCSB delegation of Universitarios Salvadoreños Estudiantes Unidos (USEU) presented information as well as two older men from El Salvador. The first USEU member spoke about the history of El Salvador, how El Salvador became independent from Spain, how the power was concentrated throughout the wealthy people, the Civil War (1980-1992), el mozote, and the Salvadorian government. The second USEU member spoke about student activism, the dropout rate due to the economic situation, the students march against the military, and the militaries mass murder of the university students. The third USEU member spoke about the economic situation, the effects that neo-liberalism had on El Salvador, the currency, the poverty line, change in exportation, the unemployment problem, and health care.
