Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Department of Chemical Engineering CHE 110 - Introduction to Programming & Problem Solving Spring 2006 Workshop 3: Creating Customized VBA Array Functions to Convert Between Mass & Mole Fractions Background Analysis of chemical processes frequently involves manipulation of the properties associated with a fluid stream which enters or exits from chemical processing equipment. These properties include pressure, temperature, composition, energy, and many others. The composition of a stream can be specified in terms of mole fractions (y j ’s) or mass fractions (x j ’s). Conversion between the two measures is a fairly common manipulation, and is given by the following formulae, where M j is the molecular weight of species “j”. j j j j j j j j j j j j x y M M x , y x y M M = = Objective The objective of this computer workshop is to develop customized VBA function procedures called Mol2Mass and Mass2Mol that can be used to convert between mole and mass fractions. Since the function must return a vector of numbers, it must be called

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
