Discussion- definition of hero Today different from Greek definition Someone who saves a life Selfless act Overcoming big obstacles Inspires other people Is Achilles like this? He inspires his men sometimes, but besides that, no real connection Soldiers look to emulate his battle skill Achilles has an attitude problem- hard to say he’s a hero- selfish, childish, not really positive Greek word for hero- we will talk about their definition Him being defined by the Iliad- framework that helps us understand how heroes work Feleus + Thetis= Achilles Brought up by Cheiron (slept w/fake Hera, prodouced Centaurs) The myth goes that when he was little baby, mother Thetis dipped him in the river Styx Dipped in by heel, “Achilles Heel”- almost immortal- heel is only place where he can die 2 fates- long and happy life or die young with great glory In Acalade and Iliad, mother Thetis doesn’t want him to die young Since she was destined to have son greater than husband, couldn’t be born immortal Dressed as a woman on island Scyros Name on island was “Pyrrha”- means “Red” Living amongst king’s daughters- manages to impregnate one of them

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
