Lecture 3/9/09 Uri Geller – Israeli man who claimed to be telepathic, and also to have the ability to bend spoons. Paradigm Incommensurability Thomas Kuhn described science as a succession of paradigms. No common measure between paradigms: o e.g. mass for Newton means something different to mass for Einstein. Scientists "talk past each other", and switch paradigms like a gestalt switch. Boundary Work How scientists and other actively construct boundaries between different realms Science and non-science Pure science and applied science “Something unusual is happening" bank robberies, rejection of parapsychology by scientists "Nothing unusual is happening“ pick pockets, gynecological examination, parapsychologists attempts to get parapsychology accepted Boundary Policing In the case of parapsychology boundary is policed by magicians (Houdini, James the Amazing Randi), journalists and some scientists like Carl Sagan

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
