Chapter 13 – Personality o Personality – relatively stable / enduring patterns of thoughts, feelings, and actions. o Assessing personality o Interviews: 2 types Structured – every person gets same set of predetermined questions. Good for research, same set of data for every person But might be missing on some data Unstructured – interviewer is free to ask different questions of each person. Get a lot of rich detailed information Hard to compare or analyze so bad for research o Observation – needs to be methodical o Objective tests – AKA inventories, standardized questionnaires, typically multiple-choice or true-false format. o MMPI (Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory) – affirmative statements; apply to self then say true false or cannot say. Scales of MMPI Hypochondrias (Original 10 scales) o How concerned you are about your health o Depression o Hysteria – how often do you use physical symptoms to get out of responsibility I can’t go to the meeting today because I
