University of California, Irvine MAE130B – Design Project Winter Quarter, 2009 You may have seen the spectacular show of the dancing fountain in front of the casino hotel Bellagio in Las Vegas. While this fantastic music fountain show has entertained millions of tourists each year, it has also escalated the competition among the casino industry in this desert kingdom. The owner of another casino Mega Award Excite (MAE) located in 130B of the Strip Street has vowed to attract the tourists back to his hotel by building a more fascinating fountain show in front of his casino. The MAE owner has a preliminary idea on the fountain layout as illustrated in the following diagrams. Six pipes, each having diameter 30cm, are connected to a central pump. The other ends of the pipes are open to the pond. The pipes are equally spaced in the angular direction. Along each pipe, 10 holes are drilled with equal interval of 5m from the pump.
