Implementation The following are the steps now proposed for the execution of implementing a Lean system for Tuttle Springs: 1. Identify and act on reasons for the inefficient processes and inventory systems of the facility. Also, assign an action to each identified problem and analyze these inefficiencies using the 5 Why’s technique. 2. Focus initially on changing the layout of the facility. The change should not only incorporate the idea of a product oriented layout system instead of a process oriented layout, but also increase the organization of the workplace, allowing for an easier implementation of a pull oriented system. We recommend making a new layout that will take advantage of the U-shaped facility, making the facility more efficient. 3. Form a pilot team consisting of representatives of the employees from the coiling, grinding, tumbling, heat setting, inspection (if possible), and packaging and shipping processes.
