Implementation The following are the steps now proposed for the execution of implementing a Lean system for Tuttle Springs: 1. Identify and act on reasons for the inefficient processes and inventory systems of the facility. Also, assign an action to each identified problem and analyze these inefficiencies using the 5 Why’s technique. 2. Focus initially on changing the layout of the facility. The change should not only incorporate the idea of a product oriented layout system instead of a process oriented layout, but also increase the organization of the workplace, allowing for an easier implementation of a pull oriented system. We recommend making a new layout that will take advantage of the U-shaped facility, making the facility more efficient. 3. Form a pilot team consisting of representatives of the employees from the coiling, grinding, tumbling, heat setting, inspection (if possible), and packaging and shipping processes. Focus the pilot team on reducing the inventory waste and creating the pull
