Michael Mark, 14 February, 2009 My Takeaway from Shadowing SICU – surgical intensive care unit, Charge Nurse – Katie - Every day the supply room gets stocked at 5PM.   - Usually no missing materials from the supply room. - Clerks      order from the online catalog if there are any missing items (2 clerks in the ICU) - The clean room gets stocked in the afternoon, but it is not kept up as well - Fluids are out of stock a lot since they are frequently used in the ICU. - MSE Orders: o Turnaround time around 2 hours usually (not sure even) o Tubes are available for “immediate” delivery o Runners are mixed up a lot since all the MSE deliveries are done through verbal  communiation o Things are done a low budget type of mentality (don’t want to order too much to  keep the department costs down, and thus the hospital’s too) - Stock carts (bedside carts) o “Techs” take care of these o Techs is the new name for nurse assistance
