Jamie Hughes Assignment #3 Introduction: The introduction repeats two phrases that include two long and two short notes. The first phrase ends in an incomplete cadence and the second ends in a complete cadence. Each following phrase is the same two long-two short note pattern just at different octaves. This introduction relates because it gives a lead in or feeling of anticipation for the rest of the piece that is coming. I’m not quite sure what is meant by the “main sections” of the introduction but I am going to take a stab at them. The first is obviously at the beginning around 0:36 and the second is at 0:51 when the violin plays in the background. The third is when the full orchestra plays the two short-two long theme at 1:20. 1:36 is the beginning of the softer, sweeter melody that is played until 2:14 when the louder melody is played again. Exposition/First theme: At 2:39 when the faster, livelier melody is played is the beginning of the exposition. The first theme is sweet and dance-like and is probably allegretto or allegro tempo. The first theme is played in staccato and is stepwise probably because of the scales or runs played repeatedly.
