Math 110 FS 2008 HO #1. Linear Regression. Linear Regression. Given a list of pairs of real numbers (data points), we often want to see if the data points are close to lying on a line, and find a line that is a good "fit" for the points. Linear Regression is a process by which the equation of a line is found that “best fits” a given set of data. The line of best fit gives the best linear representation for your data. 2

Math 110 FS 2008 HO #1. Linear Regression. Press and use to select CALC. Press This yields an equation of the form y = ax + b. The TI-83 calculates the correlation coefficient r . If the r information is absent, do CATALOG ( 2nd 0 ) DiagnosticOn . ENTRY ( 2nd ENTER ) will bring the command back to the home screen where another ENTER will execute it. 3
