At the end of a course, every student will have knowledge and understanding which the course brings to them and I am not an exception. When I registered for this class, “The Arts and the Human Spirit”, I was worried because I saw two word “ Arts” and “Spirit”. These two words were quite abstract for me. However, I still wanted to take this class and now I think It is an right decision. This class made me think deeply and I did not need to be scared if my thought was wrong. After five week, I have learned a lot. Now, I have an understanding about historical and aesthetic art in various media such as visual art, music, architecture and so on; I know the religious art of various cultures and I also improve my critical thinking and creative skills, and ability to think independently. Art is related to our life. After reading the first book “ Creative Life: Spirit, Power and Human Contact in the Practice of Art,” written by Bandhu Dunham, I believe there is a relationship between art, spirituality and creative life. In “Introduction,” Bandhu Dunham claims art can get from the experience that a person can gain from solving problems and situation that they deal with. He says that “ sometimes the problem is aesthetic, sometime spiritual, sometimes intellectual... The creative life is a multidimensional means to address the problem posed by human existence" (3). A creative life can be a meaning for a person to sharpen and improve his vision of art which is how to solve a problem and his spirituality which is how to come to term with a problem, whether it is negatively or positively. Artwork has its own message. In the chapter “ Lascaux,” Bandhu Dunham claims that the "creative life" is not just for artists and that it's a way of addressing the problems of life. Art is a form of consciousness, and a form of understanding, so the reality of life is the source of art, and the art of nurturing soil. Artists can bring the problems of life in their drawings. For instance, I used to participate in a presentation competition. The competition was about the environment and included two parts. Contestants

would draw a picture about environmental issues and then presented about it. There were many good pictures. When we saw the pictures, we could know a little what contestants were going to present. I think it is “ the ability of art to communicate, impress and even manipulate its audience” ( 2 ). Moreover, I like when Bandhu Dunham says that “ the strongest communication of art is from soul to soul” (4). The artists express their ideas and thoughts through their paintings and from their paintings, people can realize and understand what artists want to transmit. It is “ from soul to soul .” When reading the first book, the chapter “loneliness” made me think deeply. Dunham claims that “ the loneliness all people is the same; it is the fundamental gap we feel between our own being and the greater universe or nature, of which social loneliness is just one form” (5). It is also what I think. There is no difference between the loneliness of the artist and the loneliness

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
