Let’s Get Physical! Benefits of Physical Activity Differences between physical activity, exercise, and fitness Principles of Fitness How much is enough? Components of Fitness What’s the difference? Physical Activity - Movement that increases energy expenditure Exercise - Activity that is purposeful, planned, and structured Physical Fitness - Depending on level, body may respond or adapt to the demands and stress of physical effort Physical activity – any body movement carried out by the skeletal muscles requiring energy Exercise – planned structured repetitive movment of the body designed to improve or maintain physical fitness Physical fitness – a set of physical attributes that allows the body to resond or adapt to the demands and stress of physical effort Allows body to function with vigor and altertness What are the health benefits of physical activity? Improved physical functioning for daily activities as well as leisure activities Imprived quality of life: More energy, mental outlook, social interactions
