Middle class is a very diverse group o Old: Well off bankers and elite before the revolution o New: industrialists-seen as crude and uneducated o Professionals- doctors, lawyers, engineers (not rich but financially secure) shaped public opinion Lower middle class- take pride in the fact that they own their own property Working class- historians focused on the conditions of the workers Working class suffered not only from industrialization but wars, natural fluxuation of the economy also faced financial insecurity, bored by their work experience
