(This will be worth up to 3 points, depending on the quality of your answer. I suggest you prepare it in advance!) Conceptual/Short-Answer Questions (YOU WILL HAVE 3 QUESTIONS OF THIS TYPE) 1. A marble is dropped from the top of a skyscraper. Is the work done by Earth’s gravitational force on the marble (Wem) equal to, smaller than, or larger than the work done by the marble’s gravitational force on the Earth (Wme)? 2. A cardboard box is thrown up into the air. Does the box take more, less, or the same time to go up (including air resistance) as it does to come back down? 3. Explain the equation F k = μ k N, what do the terms mean and why must they be the ones used to define friction. Explain qualitatively why the coefficient of static friction is (almost) always larger than the coefficient of kinetic friction.
