Hannah is a 10-year-old girl who has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. She is a 4th grade student at Hendricks Elementary School. Prior to being diagnose with Type 1 Diabetes, Hannah was very involved in sports and played on the girls’ volleyball team. Her mother is concerned about how the diagnosis will affect Hannah. Diabetes Mellitus refers to a medical condition where in the sugar levels in the blood of an individual are higher than normal due to the inability to breakdown the sugar molecules in blood into an absorbable form and inability to produce insulin which is essential for the purpose of managing sugar molecules in the blood It is also known as juvenile diabetes. It has been defined as, a medical condition characterized by symptoms of weight loss, frequent urination and fatigue mainly due to an increased sugar level in the blood caused due to the inability of the body to produce sufficient insulin. Hannah has been diagnosed with this diabetes mellitus and so requires medication. This diagnosis does affect Hannah in several ways, but it is possible for Hannah to live a normal life if she adopts certain precautions and life style changes. Diabetes Mellitus cannot be cured easily and so Hannah has to take up a long term medication course, which may even last for a life time. Yet, this diagnosis would not impact her routine life as a student if she ensures that she takes certain precautions. This involves regular medication and a balanced life style. Since Hannah is just 10 years old, it is not very easy to make her understand the need and method of changing her food habits and lifestyle.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
