Clifford Geertz – symbolic anthropologist. Looks at symbols. We are the only animals that use symbols. Religion is a symbol of symbols that acts to establish powerful pervasive and longstanding moods and motivations in people. Anthony Wallace – communal and personal relation. Religion is ultimate transformation where highest ideals and values of a culture are expressed. Combined with a person’s personal and cultural and ethical belief system. Even people who are atheist come from a culture that was partly shaped by religion. Bernadette Deblin – youngest woman ever elected to British Parliament from Ireland. Anthropomorphism - assigning human qualities to things that are not human. Irish believe that feelings come on you, not from you. Religion is a cultural dimension. People are often held together by their religion. Ritual, mythology, beliefs, etc. are learned by experience and imitation. We see that most clearly in the behavior and attitudes of children. Religion functions the same way that a culture does. Explains phenomenon that people didn’t understand.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
