Andrew Madden March 5 th 2009 HRIM-346-194 Radar #1 Easing Interaction (Lodging Magazine February 1 st 2009): In this article, the issue of energy conservation in hotels and the technology behind it all is discussed. As the article mentions, the fluctuating price of oil and America’s growing “green” culture, energy conservation is now more than just an idea but rather a feature hotels need to have. While the technologies that are being employed in hotels, such as thermostats that lower the temperature when no one is in the room and raises it when they come back, are obviously beneficial to hotels through saving on energy costs, they also benefit hotels because energy management is something that people are very interested in now. It’s easy to see how hotels love the idea of saving on HVAC bills through energy management, but guests love the fact that the technology allows them to reduce their impact on the environment even when they’re away from home.
