A prediction, stemming from a thory, stated in a way that allows it to be tested Moving from theory to hypothesis involves the task of… (Process of Research) -Operationalization: Process of translating abstract (hypothetical) variables into observable ones -Ex: love, learing, anger - A Frustration-Aggression Hypothesis : Individuals who are prevented from finishing a task/goal will deliver more electric schok - A Similarity-Attraction Hypothesis : Having a greater number of shared values increases one’s liking for another person. Example -Theories: Low self esteem feeds depression -Hypotheses: People with low self-esteem are more apt to feel depressed. -Research and Observations: Administer test of self-esteme and depression. See if a low score on one predicts a high score on the other -Then generate or refine it. Research Methods
