I. Establish the needs of the group on the Lifeboat 1) There are various problems that have posed a threat to the cohesiveness of this particular group. a) In Case Study Part A we made it clear that the major problem was the lack of confidence/trust in one leader. b) In order to resolve this dilemma the group needs to put trust in one person to lead the “Lifeboat” to safety. i) According to Galanes and Adams, the Fiedler’s Contingency Model states that a leader is appropriate and effective dependent upon the situation in which they find themselves. (p. 256) c) Another option that would provide the Lifeboat group with more effective leadership, and in turn cooperation would be that they must all come together and collectively lead the team to safety. i) According to Galanes and Adams, Distributive Leadership assumes that all members can and should contribute to the leadership of the group, in order for the group to be successful in attaining their goals.
