The current talks between the United States and South Korea on signing and implementing a free trade agreement between the two countries, known as, KorUS FTA or the United States – Korea Free Trade Agreement have been underway for many years now. With the upcoming election, an agreement is unlikely to be reached in the near future. Korea being an emerging market (261) would open up many potential prospects for American business; however, the agreement has many disadvantages for both the United States and South Korea that affect the countries economically and socially. The three main disadvantages for the US are 1) loss of Jobs 2) the imbalance in the auto trade and 3) the ability of South Korea to use processing zones in North Korea. Each of these is extremely harmful to the United States.
