Chapter: 17 Description of the problem: Tracy was experiencing a depressed mood from her negative feelings concerning her body image. She wanted to lose fifteen pounds, but had difficulty doing so. Tracy chose to starve herself during the day and then consume large quantities of food during private eating binges, and then forced herself to throw up afterwards. These binges typically occurred 3 to 4 times per week, but sometimes happened 8 to 10 per week. During a binge episode, which lasted 2 to 3 hours, she would cook large quantities of food and repeat the binge and regurgitation cycle until all of the food was consumed. She ate quickly while pacing her apartment, and felt out of control during the episode. In addition, after purging, her mood would decrease even more. Tracy also took 4 to 6 diet pills per day and used laxatives on a regular basis. The physical problems that she experienced included, eroding enamel on her front teeth, scarred
