Psychopathology PSYC 3313 Fall 2007 Chapter: 1 Description of the problem: In the past three months, Karen Rusa has been experiencing a number of troubling symptoms that sought her to seek clinical treatment. Karen’s mood has been depressed and she has compulsive reoccurring thoughts regarding her children’s safety. In addition, she is preoccupied with numbers and performs counting rituals that interfere with her daily routine. She acknowledges that these rituals are irritable and unnecessary, but feels that she must perform them regardless. She also has experienced an increase in anxiety, especially when she feels rushed and must perform her rituals in a hurry. Karen feels that she is losing control of her life as well as her behavior and cries often. She also has reoccurring thoughts and nightmares of self- injury. Social History: Karen is married to her husband Tony and they have four children. She came from a devout Roman Catholic family that followed strict daily routines. Growing
