History 4C, Winter 2008 Prof. Margadant Study Questions for the Final Examination Part I. The first part of the exam will consist of two essay questions. You should plan to write about 45 minutes on each question. This part of the exam will count for 75% of the final exam. Each question will be about either liberalism or communism or nationalism. Here are the specific study questions to prepare about each of these topics Study questions about liberalism 1. What were the keys ideas and institutions that characterized liberalism in 19th century Europe? 2. What was the impact of the Second Industrial Revolution on liberalism? 3. How did the experience of World War I bring into question liberal assumptions about human nature? 4. What happened to liberal values and institutions in Germany between 1918-1939? 5. How did the Cold War strengthen liberal values and institutions in western Europe and undermine them in eastern Europe? Study questions about nationalism
