Desera Moore ADRS 3325 April 17, 2008 Celebration of Recovery On April 17, 2008, I attended the Texas Tech University Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery’s Celebration of Recovery. This was truly an inspiring and life-changing experience for me. A lot about my general perception of alcoholics and addicts changed dramatically as a result of this course. I was completely inspired by some of the stories and shared experiences I encountered during the Celebration and I am very impressed by the success of our local addiction recovery programs. The meeting opened with the Serenity prayer, which I had heard before in movies and through other media. I had never thought of the prayer in terms of addiction and right away it had a completely new meaning to me. Then a speaker read aloud the twelve steps, which were also hanging on the wall. At first, listening to each step, some of it seemed a little odd and extreme to me, but I remained open minded about the meeting. The next presentation involved the reception of small
