CHAPTER 9 ARTICULATION/JOINTS Need to know table 9.1 Three different kinds of joints: - Fibrous joints o found: tooth to jaw sutures in skull bones o no mobility - Cartilaginous joints o Found: Joint o Very little to no mobility - Synovial joints o Highly moveable o Lined with membrane called synovial membrane Produces synovial fluid; serves as lubrication Secured and sealed with joint capsule or articular capsule Basically ligament and tendons that covers all sides of a joint o Examples Know third column (not really second) - ---------------------------------------- CHAPTER 10 SKELETAL MUSCLE - Four basic properties of skeletal muscle o Excitability When a nerve stimulates a muscle o Contractibility A muscle can get shorter o Elasticity When you remove the stimulus, muscles return to their relaxed position o Extensibility Can be extended beyond their relaxed length Good example is sets of opposing muscles in arms and legs - Functions of skeletal muscle
