Acculturation, Assimilation & Diffusion Acculturation   - is defined as the adoption of the values, attitudes, ways of behavior, and speech of the “host” culture. Assimilation  – is defined as the full integration of an immigrant culture is absorbed into  the “host” culture.  This creates a common cultural life with: Shared history Language Intermarriage Diffusion  – is defined as the spread of a cultural item from its place of origin to other  place – OR – the process through which discrete cultural traits are transferred from one  culture to another through migration, war, trade, or other contact.
