Grade 9 Science Biology—Invasive Species Unit Project: Poster/Presentation Invasive species (sometimes called Exotic Species) are those species which are accidentally or deliberately introduced into an ecosystem. These species tend to have no natural enemies, and frequently disrupt ecosystems. The costs to Canadians can run into the hundreds of millions of dollars, and represent a major threat to existing ecosystems. Listed below are several examples of invasive species in Canada—select one, or include your own—but they must be a threat to CANADIAN ecosystems! For this unit project, working in teams of two, you and your partner will prepare either a poster or a Powerpoint Presentation, which covers the effect of invasive species on the ecosystems of Canada. Several topics are listed below. You will be marked on the following categories (see attached rubric): Content, Diagrams, Lettering, Layout, and references and/or presentation. a) Poster Option: Your poster should be mounted on a piece of Bristol Board, and should include your name, topic, and properly referenced sources. b) Powerpoint option: Students can also prepare a Powerpoint presentation instead of a poster. Plan for a 5 minute talk, including questions and answers. The Powerpoint file should be uploaded to Box. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
