With all of the new cars out today, choosing one to buy new can be a hard and confusing task. How much will I have to spend, how long will it last, and how is it going to perform compared to other cars are all of the common questions that used to be asked at car dealerships. In the past few year there are a new aspect has come into the car- buying world; hybrid cars. We all have heard that they are better than regular cars for the environment, but what really makes them different? Hybrid cars run off of rechargeable batteries and gasoline, unlike the cars of the past that run on gasoline alone. The new hybrid car is better for the environment because when the car is accelerating it uses the battery power and gas, instead of gas alone. The gas that is used in the motor has a chance to burn hotter, cleaner and more efficiently. This is also a benefit because the new hybrids can get between 55 and 60 city miles per gallon. A conventional car at best can have between twenty-five and thirty miles per gallon. The Environmental Protection Agency has found that hybrid cars produce ninety percent less smog than conventional cars. Using a battery while the car is running can be deceiving.
