PSY 113 Sec. 8 “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” Ever since she was a little girl, Toula Portakalous was told that her goal in life should be to marry a Greek and make Greek babies. She attended Greek school where she was taught the importance of marriage, as well as the power of family. Everything related back to marriage, Greek culture, and old fashioned values. Her quirky father has tremendous pride in his Greek heritage, and is convinced that every word’s root can be traced back to a Greek one. He believes that women are solely “baby breeding machines” and don’t need to be educated further than Greek school. Toula’s whole family sees her as almost past her “expiration date” so if she is to marry, it must be soon. After 30 years of conformity, she has finally decided to do something different. Toula decides to do something on her own rather than continue working at the Greek family restaurant, Dancing Zorbas . She is also unhappy with the lack of attention she receives from men. She convinces her father, Gus, to let her go to college to pursue a
