Western Civilization Chapter 2 Concept Identification: 1. What is intriguing about Indo-European languages-pg. 32 Answer: It reflects a wide distribution from India to Ireland, meaning may cultures shared similar languages derived from it. 2. Discuss the rise and power of the Hittites- pg.32-33 Answer: The Hittites were conquerors and colonists who imposed themselves and their language on peoples they vanquished. Their warrior aristocracy fielded the most fearsome army of the Bronze Age. They adopted peaceful practices from who they conquered and recorded their own language and laws. By 1595 B.C.E., they had captured Babylon. 3. Hatshepsut’s strengths and legacy- pg. 33-34 Answer: Hatshepsut was a warrior and her statecraft proved crucial to the continuing success of Egypt. She launched several successful military campaigns and extended trade. She was also one of the most ambitious builders in Egyptian history. After she died her legacy was called into question when attempts were made to remove her name from inscriptions and to destroy her images. Recent research suggests that it was Amenhotep II who was trying to block claims of royal rivals, possibly Hatshepsut's daughter, Neferure.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
