Purpose of Experiment: The purpose of this experiment is to determine which antacid is more effective at neutralizing stomach acid. This will be accomplished by comparing a generic antacid to a TUMS antacid. We will determine which is more effective at neutralizing HCl, a common acid. Whichever one is more effective at neutralizing this will be the one with more base in it, which means it will also be the more effective at neutralizing stomach acid. Experimental Procedure: First we made a dilute HCl solution by placing 25mL of concentrated HCl in a 100mL volumetric flask, filled the rest with water and mixed it around. We then massed out approximately .2g of crushed TUMS antacid and placed it in a flask. To this we added 25mL of our dilute HCl and swirled the flask until the TUMS was dissolved. We next filled our burette with NaOH and recorded the line it was filled to. We then put Phenolphthalein in our mixture, and began to add NaOH until the mixture turned a pale pink. At that time we recorded the final fill line of the NaOH and find the difference from
